Merry Christmas

Where to start? In 2014 we said good-bye to our townhouse, moved in with Sarah's parents, Scott started his 4th year of medical school, we lived apart for over 4 months while Scott traveled for school, and that's only the last 6 months! Don't worry, 2014 wasn't all work and no play. We went to Myrtle Beach for vacation with Scott's family, celebrated 5 years of marriage in Hilton Head, and even spent a day in Canada while Scott was in Michigan for school!

What does 2015 hold for us? Lots of changes! We find out where we are headed for residency in February, Scott graduates from medical school in May, we move to wherever residency will be, and start a new chapter in our life!  As always, we would appreciate your thoughts and prayers during this time of change and transition. We couldn't do this without you!

the happiest place on earth

At age 26, I can say I've been to Disney World! It was an experience, let me tell you. It MIGHT have been because we went on New Year's Eve. It was insanely packed and I thought I was going to punch a few moms in the face who insisted on trying to bulldoze me over with their child's stroller. We had longer wait times for rides and trying to get back to our car after midnight? It took us 2 1/2 hours! I felt like a cow being herded to my death! Yet, it was still a magical place. Cinderella's castle? loved it! Fireworks? It was like it went from night to day in 0.5 seconds! We met several really nice Canadians (who actually said aye!). Most of all Scott and I made some pretty awesome memories. Take a look!

No visit to Disney is complete without some Minnie Mouse ears. Sequins make them even more awesome!

Can I be Cinderella? 

We will definitely go back someday. Next time not on New Years Eve! At least not unless we stay on the resort. We only made it to the Magic Kingdom this time so there is still a lot left to explore!

MERRY CHRISTMAS Y'ALL! 

Our year in review: 

Scott started his third year of medical school and Sarah helped over 40 couples get married as an event coordinator at the War Memorial Chapel. It was an EVENTful year! Get it? Ahem. Moving on. We added a new (feline) addition to the family. Her name is Rory and she is Mia's best friend. We also took a mini vacation to Asheville, NC this fall. It was gorgeous and we are currently devising a plan on how to live at the Biltmore Estate. (We know we aren't Vanderbilts, but that's a minor detail!)

What does 2014 hold? Some big decisions. We will be making those over the next few months regarding Scott's choice of specialty and where we'd like to pursue the next chapter of this journey. We would appreciate your thoughts & prayers. We definitely couldn't do this without all of our friends & family's love and support.

Christmas | 2012

All our presents are wrapped and stowed safely under the tree. Two pecan pies are cooling on the counter and Scott is playing dodgeball with his friends. Yup, it is definitely Christmas Eve.

Here's a little peek around our house this Christmas. 

 I used boughs from our Christmas tree all around our house to decorate. Scott was concerned that a spider was hiding in the ones above our bed though.

 

Fake tree in our bedroom which is Mia's favorite toy. Thankfully, I put non breakable ornaments on the tree. She achieved her goal and knocked it over yesterday.

Christmas Tree Hunting

On a whim this past Sunday, we decided to go pick out our Christmas tree. My parents and sister, Annalee, wanted to get a tree too so we went together. We headed to Spruce Ridge Christmas Tree Farm in Newport, VA. This was the first year Scott and I actually cut down our tree. I don't think we'll ever go back to buying them from a roadside vendor. We had a lot of fun wandering among the trees and finally picking "the one"!

{2012} New Year - New Color

Happy New Year peeps!

Scott and I have been busy the past few days. I had yesterday and today off. (Thank you sweet baby Jesus!) Scott has been off as well. (Side note: He goes back to school tomorrow to start his third block of medical school. We're moving right along!) I've been wanting to update several things in our house. We moved in a year and half ago and I we painted every room in the house. We were in such a hurry to get everything done that I didn't put a whole lot of effort into the colors. We ended up with everything being the same color. Can we say BORING? I have wanted to roll up my sleeves and get busy for a while but Scott likes to be a part of these things. Outwardly he is this big ole jock but behind that facade is this little interior decorator. Scott loves HGTV and DIY network. He actually just realized today that we have those two on our cable lineup. The channel hasn't changed since he made this discovery. Anyway, this weekend was the perfect opportunity to check some things of my wish list. I wanted to paint our kitchen/dining room and master bedroom. Scott was not so eager. We compromised to an accent wall in our bedroom. (I did the majority of the compromising!)  Mr. Interior Decorator and I decided on a color called Blanket Brown from Home Depot. Scott painted the wall behind our bed Sunday afternoon while I cleaned. We loved it so much we painted the rest of the room yesterday. The only downside is Scott says it reminds him of chocolate milk which makes him hungry. Haha! Take a look at our handy work below.

I have a few more things I want to buy to finish the room off like new curtains and lamps. It's a work in progress but that's more fun anyway. We started the New Year with a change and, fingers crossed, this year will continue to be full of them.

Christmas fit for a King (or two)

Christmas is upon me whether I'm ready or not. Thankfully, I'm ready. Scott bought our last present yesterday. All, save the a fore mentioned, is wrapped and under the tree. Did I mention that today (technically yesterday) was Scott's last day of school for a whole week and a half!?!? Hallelujah! He needs it more than I do but I'll be glad to have my giant teddy bear around all the same.  Anyway, if you'd like take a gander at what our little castle looks like during the Christmas season scroll on down!

My mom gets us a new ornament each year. S is for Sarah and Scott!

Scott calls this my Charlie Brown Christmas tree. But I like it and besides I needed some Christmasy-ness in our dining room/kitchen! 

We started this tradition last year. We saw off the a little bit of the stump and make it into an ornament for each year. Pretty neat. Can't say we thought of it though. The guy who sold us the tree gave us the idea.

My natural tree in the dining room. I used decorative lights I had around the house instead of Christmas lights, hung pine cones, and used little decorative balls from a bag of potpourri. 

I used some left over balls from the tree and filled in this tea light holder for a Christmas-y feel. Also I found that reindeer in our attic.

Turkey Day

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and I'm rather excited about it. It's a lovely holiday. You get to see your family but not be broke from gifts. Also you get to stuff yourself as full as the turkey on the table. What? Just me. Er-uh, moving on. Recently, I realized from talking to my married friends I have yet to go through an important rite of passage. I have not cooked a Thanksgiving meal. Dun Dun Dun. Scott and I have been married for two years and I have yet to baste a turkey or bake a pumpkin pie. So I've been sitting around listening to those a for mentioned friends, who are nervously planning a every minute detail of their Thanksgiving meal, and I feel completely incompetent. Not incompetent enough to do any thing about it mind you. I will continue to bask in my lack of duties and be served delicious food by my mother. I wonder though, is that a bad thing? Possibly. I'll probably be 30, children running all over the place, and be 2000 miles away from my mom, begging her through tears to tell me how to fix the blasted turkey over the phone. Oh well. I'm ready to deal with the consequences later. For now I'll continue to gorge myself on the delicacies presented to me by the expert- AKA my mom.

Yup. Thanksgiving is awesome.
